Dyes have long been utilized extensively in industries as well as in everyday life. In order to clarify the function of hydrogen bonding and the polarity of the environment in the ground and excited states, the photophysical behaviour of E124 dye in isotropic and anisotropic solvent environments was examined in this research. The Kamlet-Taft solvent polarity scale was employed for a more thorough examination of the environmental impacts. The findings demonstrated that hydrogen bonding is crucial for promoting the tautomerization of the azo-hydrazone form and enhancing its structural stability. The estimated dipole moment shows that it significantly increases in more polar circumstances and that the excited state of this sulfonated dye exhibits efficient internal charge transfer and effective charge separation.
Lastly, the relative stability of the azo and hydrazone tautomers in various settings was evaluated for the first time using the "intrinsic polarity index" scale, which offers a mathematical framework for describing their stability and reactivity.
