Abstract

The report presents a comprehensive analysis of the transformational effect of technology on the English language teaching (ELT), which examines its integration in the academic functioning, impacts on the main language skills, related benefits and challenges, impact on evaluation practices and potential future projections. The arrival of the digital age has catalyzed a paradigm change in the ELT, which facilitates technological progresses towards the traditional teacher-centric approaches to the dynamic, learner-centered model. Technology integration has revolutionized the teaching functioning, including equipment such as online quiz, language learning apps, podcasts, virtual exchanges, interactive whiteboards and AI-observed assistants. This integration significantly affects the development of reading, writing, listening and speaking skills by offering increased access, engagement, personal response and authentic practice opportunities. Benefits include students engagement and motivation, personal learning experiences, access to diverse resources and promotion of learner autonomy. However, challenges such as digital divide, digital literacy and teacher training requirement, capacity for distraction and more dependence on equipment should be addressed. Technology has also resumed evaluation, introducing methods such as online quiz, digital portfolio, automatic scoring and computer-oriented testing for more efficient and diverse evaluation. Future trends suggest growing roles for AI, VR and individual learning routes. Ultimately, while the technology provides unprecedented capacity to enrich ELT, its effective and equitable implementation requires a thoughtful scheme, the ongoing profession.
